Important Note for AKC Registration of Rare Colors!!!
When registering your puppy with AKC it is necessary to include two photos along with your puppy's AKC registration paper work. The photos must be a full front view as well as a side view of the puppy. All variations of the Liver color (Liver,Liver Tan, Liver Pepper), all Parti colors as well as White and Wheaton must include photos with the AKC paper work.

Miniature schnauzers come in aray of awesome colors besides the traditional Black & Silver, Black and Salt & Pepper. These are the only 3 colors that the American Miniature Schnauzer recognizes for showing but actually recognizes all of the colors and are eligible for AKC registration. These other colors are considered 'rare colors' and have become very popular and we think have made the breed even more exciting! The 'rare colors' are any of the Chocolates or Livers, such as Liver/Tan, Liver Pepper, Chocolate or Liver Parti, White Chocolate, all of the parti's including Black/White Parti, Salt & Pepper Parti or Black & Silver Parti. Also, White and Wheaton.

Salt & Pepper

The coat of this color of dog is the most common color. It ranges in color from very dark, much like a black & silver to
very light so that it looks almost white or silver. All salt & peppers have 'banded' hairs which means that there are 3
shades of gray. The darkest shade is called 'Dark Salt & Pepper' and lightest is called a 'Platinum Silver'. Do not be
mistaken with the Platinum Silver color being a different color, it is simply a very light Salt & Pepper. Most salt &
peppers will fade and become lighter with time. Platinum silvers also have black points like the pup above who has the black beard and tips of her hair.

Picture
White
The coat of this color of dog is just that, white and should remain white throughout the life of the dog.
Whites will have black noses and foot pads.
White chocolates are also bright white but have brown noses and foot pads and usually green eyes.
