Important Note for AKC Registration of Rare Colors!!!
When registering your puppy with AKC it is necessary to include two photos along with your puppy's AKC registration paper work. The photos must be a full front view as well as a side view of the puppy. All variations of the Liver color (Liver,Liver Tan, Liver Pepper), all Parti colors as well as White and Wheaton must include photos with the AKC paper work.

You should address the envelope to AKC and mark it with: "ATTN: Karla Deithorn- Special Services" in order for your paper work to be processed more quickly.

Miniature schnauzers come in aray of awesome colors besides the traditional Black & Silver, Black and Salt & Pepper. These are the only 3 colors that the American Miniature Schnauzer recognizes and will allow to be shown in their sponsored shows. However all of the other colors are eligible for AKC registration. These other colors are considered  'rare colors'  and have become very popular and we think have made the breed even more exciting!  The ' rare colors'  are any of the Chocolates or Livers, such as Liver/Tan, Liver Pepper, Chocolate or Liver Parti, White Chocolate, all of the parti's including Black/White Parti, Salt & Pepper
Parti or Black & Silver Parti.  Also, White and Wheaton.

Liver or Chocolate
The coat of this color of dog is all chocolate along with the nose, pads and eyelids. The eyes can be either brown or hazel
green.  There can also be some white on the chest or toes.

Liver & Tan
The coat of this color of dog is like the black & silver, except where the black is will be chocolate or liver and where the
silver is will be a tan or even silver color.

Liver Pepper
The coat of this color of dog is alot like a salt & pepper, it is 'banded' with shades of brown color and the nose, pads and
eyelids of the liver pepper are chocolate and the eyes can abe brown or hazel green.

Liver or Chocolate Parti
The coat of this color of dog is white with large or small spots or a blanket of liver with nose and pads being liver. The
eyes can be brown or hazel green.

Black
The coat of this color of dog  is solid black with hopefully no white or silver hairs mixed in although most blacks will end
up with some light colored hairs as they age. Some blacks can also have some white markings.

Black & Silver
The coat of this color of dog is very black with the furnishings (legs, beard, face and eyebrows) being silver colored or
even bright white.  The extreme white furnishings with the black are called 'Phantom'  and are very desirable. There
should be no liver or copper color behind the ears or on any of the body.

Black & Silver Parti
The coat of this color of dog is white with large or small spots or a blanket of solid black with the nose, pads and eyelids
being black. The eyebrow will be silver or white like the black & silvers. The eyes are brown.

Black & White Parti
The coat of this color of dog is white with large or small spots or a blanket of solid black with the nose, pads and eyelids
being black. They do not have silver or white eyebrows. The eyes are brown.

Salt & Pepper
The coat of this color of dog is the most common color. It ranges in color from very dark, much like a black & silver to
very light so that it looks almost white or silver.  All salt & peppers have 'banded' hairs which means that there are 3
shades of gray.  The darkest shade is called 'Dark Salt & Pepper' and lightest is called a 'Platinum Silver'. Do not be
mistaken with the Platinum Silver color being a different color, it is simply a very light Salt & Pepper. Most salt &
peppers will fade and become lighter with time.

Salt & Pepper Parti
The coat of this color of dog is white with large or small spots or a blanket of salt & pepper (banded shades of gray) with
the nose, and pads being black. The eyes are brown.

White
The coat of this color of dog is just that, white and should remain white throughout the life of the dog.

White Chocolate
The coat of this color of dog is all white with chocolate colored nose, pads and eyelids. The eyes are brown or hazel
green.

Wheaton
The coat of this color of dog appears white as they grow, but the puppy is actually born with a very light tan coat  or
even platinum silver coat that fades to white.
